25 km of negotiations


the challenge

A Hamilton electricity lines business, WEL Networks Limited, proposes to construct a 25 to 40 km overhead pole 110 kV line from Te Kowhai to Te Uku in the Waikato District.  The line will perform three functions:
  • Strengthen electricity supply to Raglan
  • Convey electricity to Raglan from the proposed wind farm
  • Convey electricity to the National Grid from the proposed wind farm
The route will cross between 30 and 45 land parcels, depending on its final location. For more details see www.wel.co.nz

key phases

  • Acquisition of property rights from land/resource owners and authorities
  • Consideration of alternative routes, sites and methods
  • Obtaining the appropriate Resource Consents

our role

  • Project management of the acquisition (property), consideration of alternative, consenting (RMA) and other regulatory phases
  • Contract management of property experts (surveyor, valuer, negotiator, conveyance lawyer) and RMA experts (lawyer, planner, transport, consultation, archeologist, ecologist, acoustic engineer, landscape architect, CHAR, medical doctor)
  • Title searches and landowner negotiations
  • Geographical information system (GIS) management.
  • Designation of the route and sites for the line and substations, including consultation and public notification
